Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How old does my child have to be to play Little League at Snug Harbor LL?

A. Boys must be Little League Age 4 through 13 years old.
Girls must be Little League Age 4 through 16 Years old.

Q. What is Little League Age?
A. Little League Age is calculated by Little League International.  You can calculate your child's Little League age here. All Boys play in Baseball Divisions.  Girls LL Age4-6 play in the Baseball Divisions, and Girls LL Age 7-16 play in the Softball Division

Q. How do I know if my child is eligible to play at Snug Harbor LL?
A.  Every Little League on the Island has a Boundary Map.  All players that live or go to school inside the Boundaries of Snug Harbor LL are eligible to play as long as they also meet the Age requirements.  The Snug Harbor Boundary map can be found here. Just enter your address into the Google maps page and see if your are located inside the blue lines for Baseball or Softball.

Q. Does my child have to attend tryouts?
A.  Tryouts for Divisions are in place for the Managers to see the players skills prior to the draft.  At this time only the Major and Minor Baseball Divisions have a tryout.  Any Boy who will be LL Age 10 through 12, who is not already placed on a Major Division Team, needs to attend Tryouts for the Major Division.  Any Boy who is LL Age 9-12 who is not on a Major Division Team needs to attend Minor Division Tryouts.

Q. What happens if I can't make Tryouts?
A.  If a player does not attend tryouts they will not be eligible for the Division they are trying out for and will be kept down in the lower Division.  The Executive Board reserves the right to place a player in a higher division based on the players talent and the safety of the other players in the lower division.

Q. Will my Son automatically go to the Major Division if he is LL Age 12 this season?
A.  No.  All Players must tryout for the Major Division Teams and be selected in the Draft to play in the Major Division.

Q.  What if my 12 year old son does not get drafted to a Major Division Team?
A.  If your son is LL Age 12 this season and does not get drafted to a Major Division Team, he will be eligible to play in the Minor Division with a signed waiver.

Q. Don't all 12 year old boys play in the Major Division?
A. In the past, Snug Harbor Little League has been drafting most 12 year old boys to the Major Division.  However, with the Little League Age Determination date changes, we see an increase in the number of potential 12 year old boys with limited spots available.  Based on this Rule change, Snug Harbor will fill spots in the Major Division based on talent and not just age.
